Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses a suction technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or neck. Liposuction also shapes (contours) these areas. Other names for liposuction include lipoplasty and body contouring.

Liposuction isn’t typically considered an overall weight-loss method or a weight-loss alternative. If you’re overweight, you’re likely to lose more weight through diet and exercise or through bariatric procedures — such as gastric bypass surgery — than you would with liposuction.

You might be a candidate for liposuction if you have too much body fat in specific spots but otherwise have a stable body weight.

Liposculpture

Liposculpture is an invasive procedure used to create desired body contour by removing areas of excess fat. Common treatment locations include the abs, love handles, thighs, arms, back, and underneath the chin. Though it’s often thought of as a weight loss solution, liposculpture is not intended to treat this problem. Instead, it’s meant to address pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

In some cases, liposculpture can be used to jumpstart a weight loss program, but patients should not expect to lose more than five to ten pounds from the treatment. The procedure is also not effective for cellulite, stretch marks, or sagging skin.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck — also known as abdominoplasty — is a cosmetic surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the abdomen.

During a tummy tuck, excess skin and fat are removed from the abdomen. In most cases, the connective tissues in the abdomen are tightened with sutures as well. The remaining skin is then repositioned to create a more toned look.

You might choose to have a tummy tuck if you have skin that’s accumulated around the area of your bellybutton and a weak lower abdominal wall. A tummy tuck can also boost your body image.

Fat Transfer/Brazilian Butt Lift

A buttock lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the buttocks. It’s typically done as part of a belt lipectomy or lower body lift to contour the buttocks, groin, thighs and abdomen.

During a buttock lift, excess skin and fat are removed from the buttocks. The remaining skin is then repositioned to create a more toned look.

You might choose to have a buttock lift if your buttocks appear saggy due to weight loss, aging or genetics. A buttock lift can boost your body image.

Labiaplasty

The term labiaplasty refers to a procedure that reduces the length of the labia minora. It is the most commonly performed vaginal rejuvenation procedure and it can relieve symptoms women experience from twisting and tugging of the labia.

Lymphatic Massage

Lymphatic massage, also called lymphatic drainage or manual lymph drainage, is a technique developed in Germany for treatment of lymphedema, an accumulation of fluid that can occur after lymph nodes are removed during surgery, most often a mastectomy for breast cancer. Lymphedema can also be present at birth or develop at puberty or during adulthood. This type, known as primary lymphedema, can affect as many as four limbs and/or other parts of the body. The cause is unknown. Lymphatic drainage massage for conditions other than lymphedema is not medically recommended, although it may be promoted by some therapists.
